About the Piece

ChristianÕs 1984 trip to Morocco produced some of the best works in his oeuvre. One such work is The NightwatchmanÕ (1984) in which we meet Beduda, a one-eyed Tangier beggar. Christian saw that this man Ôhad more with his Faith and one eye than most people know with both eyes and less FaithÕ. Christian admired Beduda and his ability to be joyful in his disability and spiritual in his poverty. He saw in him an allegorical personification of what makes us human and our path difficult.
