About the Piece

In ElsnerŐs oeuvre, many works speak of ElsnerŐs hatred of political or religious ideology. He has painted works speaking against, for instance, the massacre of the Algerians in Paris in 1961 and the violence against Palestinians in Israel. Here Elsner shows his fury at the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeinion issuing a fatwa against the writer Salman Rushdie for his novel The Satanic Verses.
